For a Clear, Industrial-Strength Shell, Polycarbonate (PC) is the strongest candidate. Use PMMA only if the part is purely a visual cover and will not be subjected to impacts.

Injection molding clear parts requires extreme precision to avoid defects that ruin the appearance and structural integrity.

Mold Design is Critical:

Surface Finish: The mold cavity must be highly polished to a mirror finish (often SPI A1). Any flaw will be perfectly replicated onto the clear plastic part.

Gating: Gates (where the plastic enters the cavity) must be carefully designed to minimize visible witness marks. Tab gates or diagonal gates are often used, and they may require post-molding trimming.

Cooling Channels: Must be uniform to prevent flow lines and warpage.

Process Control is Key:

Eliminating Flow Lines: The design should allow plastic to flow smoothly and fill the cavity without obstacles that cause knit lines, which are highly visible in clear parts.
