The Precision Injection Molding Process

Here's what it takes to get from your design to your part:

• Design For Manufacturability (DFM):
  
  • Wall Thickness: It should be uniform in order to avoid any warping and sink marks.
  • Draft Angles: Small draft angle should be added to all vertical walls to make the parts easy to eject from the mold.
  • Ribs & Bosses: Should be designed properly to increase strength but prevent sink marks.
  • Undercuts: Identification of any undercuts which might require costly (and special) mold actions.
  • Prototyping: Prior to making the final mold, it's better to make sure that your part works by prototyping (for example using 3D printing or CNC machining).
• Mold Manufacturing:
• A high-quality mold is manufactured. High-precision molds are usually made of hardened steel. The quality of mold defines the quality of parts produced.
  
  • Production & Quality Control:
  • Your chosen plastic material (for example, ABS pre-colored in silver) is melted and injected into the mold.
  • Strict process control ensures that everything is consistent.
  • The parts are inspected for critical dimensions, weight, and appearance defects.
