European project to recycle ABS for injection molding of plastic parts
ELIX Polymers partners with Repsol and AnQore to produce raw materials used to produce 100% recycled ABS. ELIX Polymers said its collaboration with the other two companies has successfully used chemically recycled post-consumer waste to produce styrene and butadiene, which ELIX can use to produce 100% recycled ABS plastic.
The Spain-based company said the process uses not only plastic waste, but sometimes also bio-recycled raw materials from waste cooking oil. ELIX has worked with Spanish company Repsol and Dutch chemical company AnQore to develop the process.
Products produced using the process are sold under the E-LOOP CR brand and have been certified by the International Sustainability and Carbon Emissions Certification (ISCC) Plus.
"In addition, ELIX's E-LOOP CR can help reduce CO2 footprint by promoting sustainable and recyclable raw materials that have lower greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions than traditional materials," ELIX said.
For the toy industry, producers can use an acrylonitrile supplied by AnQore, while Repsol offers styrene and butadiene made from chemically recycled post-consumer waste and waste cooking oils.
ELIX Polymers signed agreements with AnQore and Repsol in 2020 to secure the supply of more sustainable materials.
“All three companies believe that long-term partnerships throughout the supply chain are essential in order to achieve sustainability goals and provide society with products made with more sustainable materials,” they said, adding that customers will not notice any changes in the performance of their products, but they will be participating in responsible circular consumption.
