Plastic Mold Polishing Considerations at Injection Molding Manufacturers
2025,10,23
Polishing plastic molds for injection molds has two purposes: one is to increase the mold's finish, resulting in a smooth, beautiful, and aesthetically pleasing surface. The other is to facilitate mold release, preventing plastic from sticking to the mold and becoming stuck. Huiwen Plastics will share some tips for polishing molds at injection mold manufacturers:
1. When machining a new mold cavity, first inspect the workpiece surface and clean it with kerosene to prevent contaminants from sticking to the oilstone, which could compromise its cutting performance.
2. When grinding rough grain, proceed from difficult to easy, especially hard-to-grind corners and deep bottoms.
3. Some workpieces may be assembled and polished together. First, grind the rough grain or spark pattern of each individual workpiece separately, then align and polish all the pieces until smooth.
4. For workpieces with large or flat surfaces, after using an oilstone to remove rough lines, perform a light transmission inspection with a flat steel sheet to check for unevenness or undercuts. Undercuts can make demolding difficult or damage the part.
5. To prevent undercuts on plastic molds or to protect mating surfaces, tape a saw blade or sandpaper to the edges for optimal protection.
6. When pulling the flat surface of a plastic mold back and forth, keep the oilstone handle as flat as possible, avoiding an angle of more than 25°. A large angle causes the force to flow downward, which can easily cause rough lines on the workpiece.
