Plastic molds can be classified into three categories based on the type of gating system.

 

Plastic mold gating systems can be divided into three main categories based on different system types:

 

(1) Gate molds: Gates and gating lines are simple to design, easy to process, and have low cost. Therefore, gate systems are increasingly used.

 

(2) Nozzle molds: Gates and gating lines are not differentiated by type. Usually, a set of gating lines is designed directly in the product design. The design is more complex and difficult to process. Often, a fine nozzle system is selected according to product requirements.

 

(3) Hot runner molds: The mold has the same structure and fine gating. The biggest difference is that there are one or more hot runners, temperature and hot nozzles, but no cold feed demolding. The runner and gating are directly on the product, so the port does not need demolding. It is also called a gating system. This system can save raw materials and is suitable for products with relatively expensive raw materials and high demand. The mold design and processing are difficult and the cost is high. The hot runner system is mainly composed of a hot runner cover, a hot runner plate and a temperature control box. There are two common types of hot runner systems: single-point hot runners and multi-point hot runners. With a single-point hot runner, molten plastic is directly injected into the cavity using a single hot runner bushing. Multi-point hot runners are used to branch the molten material into each hot runner bushing, and then the material enters the mold cavity through a hot runner plate.
