plastic parts Plastic Injection Molding Molds - Processing Classification

2025,11,04

Injection molding is a common industrial product manufacturing method in machining. This process processes rubber and plastic to obtain the desired shape. Injection mold processing has several classifications, and the processing technology should be selected according to the requirements of the injection molded product.

Classification of Injection Mold Processing

I. Single Parting Surface Injection Mold

In this type of mold, the moving mold and the fixed mold are separated during mold opening to remove the plastic part. This is called a single parting surface mold. This processing method is one of the simplest types of injection molds. It can be designed as a single-cavity injection mold or a multi-cavity injection mold, and it is widely used in modern production.

II. Double Parting Surface Injection Mold

Double parting surface injection molds have two parting surfaces. Compared to single parting surface injection molds, double parting surface injection molds have a movable intermediate plate in the fixed mold section, so this type of injection mold is also called a three-plate injection mold. Commonly used in single-cavity or multi-cavity molds with point gate injection.

III. Injection Molds with Side Parting and Core-Pulling Mechanisms

When the plastic part has side holes or side recesses, a laterally movable core or slider is required for forming. After injection molding, the moving mold moves downwards a certain distance, and then the inclined surface of the bent pin fixed to the fixed mold plate forces the slider to move outwards. At this time, the ejector rod of the demolding mechanism pushes the plastic part off the core.

IV. Injection Molds with Movable Molding Components

Due to certain special structures of the plastic part, the injection molding may require movable molding components, such as movable punches, dies, movable inserts, movable threaded cores, or rings, which can be removed from the mold along with the plastic part during demolding and separated from the plastic part.

V. Automatic Threaded Injection Molds

For threaded plastic parts, when automatic demolding is required, a freely rotating threaded core or ring can be installed on the mold. The opening action or the rotation mechanism of the injection molding machine drives the threaded core or ring to rotate, thus removing the plastic part.

VI. Runnerless Injection Molds

Runnerless injection molds refer to molds that use a method of insulating and heating the runner to maintain the plastic between the injection nozzle and the cavity in a molten state, ensuring that there is no solidified material in the gating system when the plastic part is removed from the mold.

VII. Injection Molds with Ejection Mechanism on the Fixed Mold

In injection molds, the ejection device is installed on the moving mold side. This greatly assists the ejection device in the injection molding machine's mold opening and closing system. In actual production, for some plastic parts, due to shape limitations, leaving the plastic part on the fixed mold side is more conducive to molding.
