Difficulties in Injection Molding Tablet Backshells

 

A Beijing customer contacted us at Huiwen, requesting a custom mold for a tablet backshell. After communicating online to understand their needs, the customer sent us 3D drawings, which we immediately reviewed with our engineering team member, Li. Because this product was relatively large, preliminary estimates indicated a 400-ton mold would be required, along with a complex structure. The engineering team convened a meeting to discuss the mold design details. Addressing the difficulties of injection molding this tablet backshell, we provided the customer with two mold design options:

 

The customer requested a less noticeable clamping line for the bottom shell and no paint finish. To address this clamping line, we focused on the water entry point.

To address the clamping line issue, we proposed two solutions, and our engineering team created dynamic simulations of the two water entry methods for the customer to choose from. After discussing the details, our engineering team selected the center water entry method. We then provided the customer with a quote based on this approach.
